June Done, July Now
Well, as expected, June left no time for bubble baths.
It was an eventful month with two shows and a three-day festival bender. You’d think I’d be on a high, but what actually sticks with me is the emotional aftermath that art events leave behind. Whether the impact is good or bad, there’s always a way to interpret it. I just don’t believe in seeing things in black and white.
Now, when it comes to immersive art rooms and multidisciplinary collabs, here’s the thing. If you're bringing in performers who aren’t visual artists, you need to be intentional about the space you're creating. If the crowd ends up more focused on the party than the art, then let’s not pretend it’s an immersive art experience.
If you’re going to call it that, make sure the art actually immerses. Put the visual artists front and center. Otherwise, it’s just a vibe with some paintings on the wall.
That experience sparked something in me. I’ve decided to start hosting my own events — ones that center visual artists and actually support their growth. Too many exhibitions and markets are designed for profit, not for artists or customers to genuinely evolve through the work. It's time to change that.
My art remains displayed at the Montreal Museum and Art center at 1844 William St, Montreal, Quebec H3J 1R5 Until July 12th, 2025.
